VMS Service provided by Shipping21 has two systems of tracing vessel¡¯s position. One is AUTOTRACK system which use Inmarsat C terminal via satellite communication service. The other one is EMAILTRACK system which use telex messages. Vessel sends us the telex/e-mail messages which is suitable for the POSITION DATA REPORTING format and then the vessel¡¯s position will be indicated on the map.

AutoTrack service is based on ¡°Data Networks¡± which are sub-networks within the Inmarsat C network. Such data networks have as ¡±members¡± one or more Inmarsat C terminals. Each data network is identified by a unique DNID.

A Data Network IDentity (DNID) number is used to address a specific group of terminals. All Inmarsat C terminals in a group must be configured to belong to that DNID. A terminal may belong to more than one DNID group. A 5-digit DNID and corresponding DNID member number must be downloaded into the Inmarsat C terminal in order for a terminal to belong to an DNID group. The member number is an unique identifier for each terminal in a DNID group. This member number is the only identification that the terminal sends in a Data Report -- the Data Report does contain the Inmarsat Mobile Number (IMN) of the terminal. To request that a DNID be loaded into an MES, please contact Telenor Customer Care. Downloading of an DNID must be performed by the staff at the LES. DNIDs may be deleted from the terminal¡¯s memory by the mobile user.

Position Data Report can be automatically reported according to the pre-registered periodic time. (Minimum 1 time to Maximum 24 times a day) You can also check the vessel¡¯s position through user¡¯s individual polling command.

If you can¡¯t use polling command of Inmarsat C terminal, you can check the vessel¡¯s position through noon report which vessel sends. The vessel¡¯s position can be shown on the map automatically. When vessel send the noon report, she should use the specific format so that the information about the vessel¡¯s position can be automatically abstracted and then indicated on the map. Vessel¡¯s sailing route is saved in database and you can check the past sailing route.
